Ilfochrome Resurrected, Again

ilford photoIlford put out a press release stating that Ilfochrome (formerly known as Cibachrome) will be distributed to camera stores in the USA and Canada by Wynit. Wynit is a middle-man distributor of photographic and computer products to small and specialty camera stores.

Any of you who have printed Ilfochromes before know just how amazing the result can be. Ilfochrome is an archival color optical print media. Unlike all other color processes that add dyes during processing, Ilfochrome has the dyes added during manufacturing, and the chemical process destroys the unwanted dyes. All other color paper and film is white before processing, while Ilfochrome material is black. Hence, Ilfochromes are known as “Dye Destruction Prints” as compared to a process such as Fuji Supergloss, which is a “Color Chromogenic Print.”

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, go ahead and put a light jet or ink jet print next to an Ilfochrome. I mean a really nice digital print. They best you can find. I’ll take the Ilfochrome any day of the week.

    Joseph,

Am looking to buy Ilfachrome Classic Process P3 Kit 3.5. BHPhotovideo.com sells it but won’t ship. Any idea who might sell possibly 10 boxes and ship? We could pick it up if it was available in the west. We live in Boise Idaho.
    Thanks.

Sorry, I really haven’t a clue. I’ll keep my eye out though.

For better or worse I live in Australia. I printed Ilfochrome classic as a hobby for years but through lack of availability this has now ended.

Your reference to availability within the US re-kindles my hope to again use the product.

Can anyone name me a contact from whom I might get information on Ilfochrome classic sheet (rather than roll) paper and P3.5 chemistry availability? The contact person could be a representative of the manufacturer a distributer or even a retailer who might ship to Australia.

    Thank you,

    John Sheridan
