excellent article .. spot on … what is needed is for more artists to hear it and say ‘no’ to free work … to know their work is valuable and to value for themselves …

I’ve seen so many anti-spec rants like these before, and of course, they’re completely reasonable and valid. The industry is being hurt by such design prostitutes(people accepting spec), pimps(sites promoting spec) and customers. (people buying spec)

However, I sincerely believe that these “people looking for artists” are never gonna go away. They’re here to stay and to do some damage. We have to seriously find a way to work around this problem and solve it not by complaining and ranting, but by doing.

Of course, I have no idea how.

Thank you for writing this. I have made a great many of these points many times when talking with people who ask for “favors”. I will now be directing people to this article anytime I’m asked to do a “favor” or “help someone out”. Thanks again!
