philosophy of a fine print by frank espada…

Frank Espada / Photographer

Photography is the only art form whose technology has become its Frankenstein monster. The very ease offered by improved processes and automated, hight-tech cameras and equipment has created an avalanche of trash unequaled in the history of art. Anyone with an index finger and a good right eye can claim to be a photographer. Speed, quantity and convenience are the elements controlling this madness. Press the shutter, and presto, the magic takes over- auto exposure, auto focus, and then, whether done by others or at home, or in school, the mad frenzy for quantity, and the faster the better.

The results: Mediocre at best, poor is the average, trash not far behind.

Accessible Art Update

Wildfire Aftermath Fine Art PrintHaving worked out the kinks of the Accessible Art experiment, and after a fair amount of individual requests, I have decided to begin shipping prints outside the United States. All the same rules apply, the only difference being the minimum for international donations is $5.00.

For those you haven’t heard, when you make a donation, you will receive an 8×10 inch fiberbase silver-gelatin print of your choice. This is not a digital inkjet, a lightjet or a giclee. This is a 100% archival chemical print, hand printed by me, not a lab. All prints will be delivered signed and dated.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has donated so far.

On another note, I have been in the darkroom for the last three days, so watch for new images added to the print gallery in the coming week.
