Artificial intelligence poses ‘risk of extinction’, experts warn

Prominent figures in the AI industry, including CEOs of OpenAI and Google DeepMind, have signed a statement calling for the global prioritization of addressing the risks associated with AI, including the risk of extinction.

Over 300 AI professionals have signed the statement. This comes after an open letter in April that called for a pause in AI development.

Our CEO, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed-Rengers, believes that the focus on the "risk of extinction" is a diversion from more tangible harm caused by AI companies, such as the invasion of privacy and the spread of disinformation. He calls for action against AI-enabled harm, including stricter regulations, disclosure of AI products' outputs, and the development of tools to detect and prevent harmful AI use.
